Is Welding The Right Career For You?

Do you want to kick start your future? Do you want to work with your hands instead of sitting in college lectures all day? Welding careers can be very lucrative, and the welding industry is looking for more certified welders to enter the workforce. So, is welding the right career for you?

The Benefits of a Trade School

Going to a trade school to learn welding techniques offers more hands-on training than almost any other degree you could obtain from a four-year university. At ETI School of Skilled Trades, you will get hands-on training in job-site simulations. You will develop your skills in the shop instead of a classroom. You will get to use state-of-the-art equipment and learn from by industry experienced instructors. In less than seven months you can become a master in your field while your friends in college will still be completing their general education courses. Instead of an endless job search or a low paying internship after graduation, you can land a job quickly and according  the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average annual salary for a welder is $41,380 ($19.89 per hour).

Hands-on training

You can only learn welding through real world experience, by doing. ETI provides hands-on training so you build the skills you need to succeed on the job. You will learn the four different weld processes, SMAW (Stick), GTAW (TIG), GMAW and FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding). By practicing these welds with your own hands, in the shop, you will learn the different pressures to use, how to weld the small and difficult angles and how to create the perfect bead. Some people think that they can learn to weld in a matter of weeks, but it takes time, observation and practice. ETI’s Welding Program guides you in the right direction with hands-on training and the largest accredited facility in the Chicagoland area.

Classroom Setting

To ensure you are knowledgeable about the ins and outs of your equipment you will attend a few classroom-based classes. During the classroom work, you will learn how to read and understand detailed welding drawings, welding symbols, safety practices, understanding equipment, understanding the different types of welding techniques, proper set-up and handling of equipment and more. We teach you the information you need to be confident in the shop.
