The Difference Between HVAC Jobs and HVAC/R Jobs
HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. On the other hand, the “R” in HVAC/R stands for refrigeration.
Both HVAC and HVAC/R technicians work with the systems circulating and moving air between the inside and outside spaces of residential and commercial buildings to keep them at a comfortable temperature. HVAC/R technicians also work on the refrigeration systems used to cool items like food and drinks for storage, transportation, and sale to consumers.
What HVAC/R Technicians Do
HVAC/R technicians maintain, repair and install heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. They typically do the following:
- Install electrical wiring and components
- Diagnose, install and maintain HVAC systems
- Repair or replace damaged HVAC parts and refrigeration systems
- Test and inspect HVAC and refrigeration components and systems
- Keep records of jobs performed for future appointments
- Recommend maintenance to improve the systems’ performance
